There are two options for the Grief Recovery Method. The Grief Support Group is an eight-week program that meets once a week for two hours. Each of my groups is small, limited to a maximum of six people. The One-on-One Program for individuals is a seven-week program that meets once a week for one hour. Please note that all participants must be at least 18 years old; be able to read, write, and speak English; and commit to attending each weekly session of the program. There will be homework each week, which will take approximately one to two hours to complete. For more details about the program, click on The Program, above.
Perhaps you’ve decided that the Grief Recovery Method could help you, but you’re not sure whether to sign up for a group or one-on-one session. What are the pros and cons of each alternative?
One of the most significant benefits of group sessions is the connection they foster. Many grievers tend to isolate – emotionally, if not physically – from those in their lives who may not understand what they’re experiencing. Going through the process of the Grief Recovery Method with others shows you that you are not alone, and that it’s okay to talk about both your loss and your reactions to it. There is great power in shared journeys, and most people find support and validation from the group that is extremely valuable. Group sessions are the less expensive option.
One-on-One sessions provide support and validation as well, but from one person. The Grief Recovery Method is effective no matter which mode you choose, and the individual sessions are ideal for someone who may find it difficult to commit to attending a two-hour meeting for eight weeks. If your calendar is less stable – because, for example, you must travel for work, or you may have child care issues – then one-on-one sessions are the better way to go because they provide flexibility in scheduling. Individual sessions require less of a time commitment (seven one-hour meetings as opposed to eight two-hour meetings).
To register for one of the Grief Support Groups, choose the session you prefer and click on the Register Me button. If you want to sign up for the One-on-One Program, click here to arrange a session.
